What's to Fear?

In God, whose word I praise; In God I have put my trust; I shall not fear. What can mere man do to me? PSALM 56:4 AMP

There is a big gulf between the extremes of who God is and what man is. Unfortunately, we have built up our fear and respect for man so high that we seem to have lost our fear for God. It appears that achievements, possessions, connections and degrees have become important to us than what God has to say.

The Psalmist is however stuck on this truth: my most important knowledge is the knowledge about God. It does not matter who I know or what I have achieved; if God is not in the mix, I have not really begun the journey. Nothing in life is permanent; the best the world has to offer me is sinking sand. I can't place any kind of sure bet on life's uncertainties; I must trust only in God whose word is certain, sure and dependable.

Oh yes, there is no guarantees that life will not happen to me. There may be losses along the way, there may be discomfort and pain. However, I note that whatever will come my way will never take away the treasure of the Presence of God in me. Whatever God allows has been carefully crafted to lead me to the place of his Purpose and plan for me. Man can do nothing to change that plan: when God is in charge, no contrary plan works. His time of favour is here.

Prayer: Lord, you  are God alone. May my heart continually fear you alone, and may your purpose and plan for my life stand. Amen.
